Sussex-Based Home For Those With Most Profound Disabilities Becomes Third Recipient Of PS&B's Covid Grant Campaign

Mary House in Hastings, part of Martha Trust, is the third recipient of the PS&B community charity grant campaign.

The campaign, which launched back in summer last year, supports Sussex charities, not-for-profit groups and services that have felt the devastating financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, by awarding them £500 grants.

Previous winners have included Cancer Unites and the WOLO Foundation.

This time it was Martha Trust that was the chosen charity - securing 85% of the public vote to receive the donation.

Michael Barber, Director at PS&B, said:

"These are such difficult times for all of us, but charities really have felt the financial impact from the pandemic - they simply cannot carry out their fundraising as normal and some of their existing supporters have had to tighten their purse strings to support their own families with thousands of people still on furlough and facing redundancy.

"Nursing and care facilities have felt the impact even further, doing everything they can and working around the clock to protect their residents and staff from this horrible virus."

Martha Trust provides a home on The Ridge in Hastings called Mary House, providing around-the-clock residential nursing care for young people and adults with the most profound disabilities.

The charity encourages residents to explore the world around them and take an active role in their community.

It inspires them to reach out and face new challenges and helps them to fulfil their potential. It provides much needed support for the carers and families too.

Since February 2020 Mary House has had to be on lockdown

The charity was selected as a finalist after its nomination highlighted just how amazing the staff have been in keeping the residents safe.

Being awarded the £500 grant from PS&B has enabled them to provide extra activities and sensory equipment within the home to stimulate and engage the residents even more during these trying times.

Kerry Banks, Fundraising and Events Officer at Martha Trust, who received the donation on behalf of the charity, added:

"The £500 will go towards transforming the lives of our very special residents at our home Mary House in Hastings."

PS&B is now calling out to the public to nominate further causes for round four of their charity community campaign to win the next £500 donation.

Each nomination must be for a Sussex based cause and should highlight the type of project, charity, group or service, details on what the £500 would be used for, and contact details for both the nominee and the nominator.

Nominations should be submitted to psandb@pmwcom.co.uk by midnight on Sunday 21st March 2021.

Details of the top three nominations (as chosen PS&B) will be announced via PS&B's Facebook page, giving the public the chance to vote for the project or cause who they would most like to see the money go to. The winner will be announced in April 2021.
