Brighton-Bound Husband & Wife Duo Ferris And Sylvester Defy Simple Genre-Expectations On Accomplished Second Album Otherness

After spending late last year amping up anticipation for the March release of their second album Otherness, Ferris & Sylvester use early 2024 to unveil new single Rain, and a series of dates that will bring them to Komedia Brighton, in February.

Otherness is set to accelerate the rise of the husband-and-wife duo - Archie Sylvester and Issy Ferris - following the success of their 2022 debut album Superhuman.

Honing in on the sweet spot between sultry, soulful grooves and folk-tinged blues, Rain, which opens side two of the album, detours stylistically away from the songs that featured on their recent EP.

Yet its heart comes from a similar place, with its highly accomplished musicianship and warm analogue live sound fuelling a desire to maintain hope in challenging times.

Issy's sweet, carefully enunciated falsetto is the song's star turn, but she also exudes a determined power as her voice channels the song's emotions - especially when complemented with deeper vocal harmonies from Archie.
Issy (Ferris) says:

"It is a song about how change is inevitable, and you've got to embrace it to move forward.

"It's a new year and it feels like the right time for this track to come out. It marks a change in the album too.

"From Side A, to Side B. Change can be a scary and lonely thing. We hope this song can be encourage and empower people when they're in the thick of it."

New album Otherness defies simple genre-expectations; explores a wealth of emotions inspired, in part, by major health issues as their son was born prematurely while they were on tour in Nashville; and uses timeless musicianship as the conduit for songs which reflect the turbulent era we live in.
The album's out-of-time sound is heightened by recording direct to a 1960s tape machine, while its ambience reflects the studios that it was crafted in: the escapist location and top tier equipment of Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios, and the intimacy of their own Archtop Studios
