404: Barns Courtney Releases New Album Of One Take Heartfelt Lyrics & Announces Concorde 2 Brighton Date

Barns Courtney had started his musical journey as part of indie bands, SleeperCell and Dive Bella Dive. He then toured as a singer/songwriter, opening for Libertine Carl Barat but paid the bills by working at PC World.

His first full-length album The Attractions of Youth dropped late in 2017, and now he's gearing up for his second full-length release, this autumn's, 404.

The new album will feature ten new tracks and explores his transition into adulthood with conflicted feelings of loss, frustration and optimism.

Listeners can expect to hear his deep vocals bringing adding an energy to a mixture of intense rock grooves and softer melodic sounds.

Recorded in the middle of the night, the vocals were captured in only one take and are largely improvised.

It is perhaps Barns' most raw and intimate work yet as he invites listeners into some of his deepest thoughts.

Speaking about the album, Barns says:

"The album circulates around the themes of existential authenticity, and how we lose ourselves as we age.

"A 404 error is when a computer can't find what it's looking for. It connects with the server but the page isn't there anymore.

"As a child of the digital age, the comparison felt apt.

"And although in some ways, our former lives still exist inside of us, they're ultimately hollow shells of what they once were, living breathing experiences.

"We can follow the links to our past, but there's nothing there.

"It's a painful realization and one that fascinated me whilst writing the record in my friends' old bedroom in the backwaters of Yaxley where we first started almost ten years ago."

Prior to the release of 404, Barns has unveiled a new single and video called You & I.

Barns Courtney plays Concorde 2, Brighton, on Saturday 12th October 2019. For tickets CLICK HERE. New album '404' will be released on 6th September 2019.

"The music we create is a real representation of a person - an outlet for personal creativity, thoughts and feelings. The more music I make, the more personal and true representation of myself is, and that is so valuable to me, so I can completely relate to what Nordoff Robbins offer in music therapy to those really struggling; an opportunity for true self-expression," says Hollie Cook.
